Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

The Plot Thickens…

It’s the late 90’s, and the Evans family is carrying on with their long-standing legacy of being the only funeral home in their small, Southern town.

It’s all business as usual, until the bodies begin to pile up with alarming frequency.

Due to the gruesome nature of the deaths, the local cops seem to think there’s a rogue animal on the loose. However, after one of the victims rises from the dead, the Evans women are convinced there’s a master Strigoi (AKA a vampire-like ghoul who becomes more human-like with each feeding) in town who’s responsible for raising the dead. With each attack, a new Strigoi is born, which means this could all get out of hand rather quickly.

This isn’t the first time they’ve handled a Strigoi outbreak, though. It’s part of their legacy, after all, to protect their town from the attacks of these vicious monsters.

Together, they must hunt the monster responsible for the domino effect of Strigoi attacks, all the while navigating the discomfort of resurfaced family secrets. Should some things stay buried?

My Thoughts…

You know how some roller coasters have a slow climb and others go from 0 to 60 in under five seconds?

Well, let’s just say this book went from 0 to 60 in under one second. Bless Your Heart wastes no time setting the scene for what kind of ride you’re in for: it’s gruesome, hilarious, and has the deep Southern spirit that the title implies.

With visceral descriptions that made my stomach churn with nausea and heave with laughter in equal measures, Lindy Ryan has written one hell of a horror novel. (Emphasis on HELL.)

Read This If:

  • Horror with equal parts blood/guts and humor
  • Supernatural monsters
  • Tongue-in-cheek Southern vibes
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer, or any other supernatural/paranormal 90s show
